As part of Reconciliation Week, our Festival Director Wesley Enoch joined some of the country’s leading Indigenous creatives for a panel discussion on Radio National’s program Speaking Out examining how First Nations storytelling and leadership is driving economic and social change.

Wesley was joined by Dr. Chelsea Bond, actress Elaine Crombie, and Channel Nine’s Brooke Boney as moderator, to discuss how they are taking charge of their narrative and influencing a broader view of the world through artistic expression.

"Indigenous storytelling is where innovation is occurring internationally," Wesley said. “We are going into territory that our non-Indigenous counterparts are just not going into.

“We can lead a debate or discussion and move into an incredibly powerful position where we are giving more of a lived experience to the nation, and the nation is growing because of it. We have so many things to share…these amazing gifts that have been built and grown in this landscape, but inherited cultures are yet to acknowledge this.

"To me, this country is still in the adolescent stage and not yet ready for maturation, which is to accept that our 60,000-year history is all of our history. If we can accept the wholeness of our nation then we can say we’re elders in the world.”
