Sydney Festival endorses the ‘Yes’ campaign in its support for the Uluru Statement from the Heart
Later this year we all have an opportunity to make history by voting in support of an Indigenous Voice to Parliament. Sydney Festival wholeheartedly supports the Uluru Statement from the Heart and believes the Voice to be a vital step in achieving its goals.
The outcome of a ‘Yes’ vote would enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to have input into policies and decisions that impact their lives and communities. It’s an opportunity to reform the Australian Constitution to provide hope and take meaningful, constructive steps towards closing the gap and reconciliation
Sydney Festival has for decades been a platform for storytelling, dialogue, and diverse perspectives. Our Festival takes place on the lands of the 29 clans of Eora and we’ve been honoured to participate in the rich legacy of storytelling that has unfolded on these lands for thousands of years.
With a long history of empowering and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with First Nations communities to show our support for a constitutionally enshrined Voice to Parliament.
Sydney Festival has made the decision to support the Voice to Parliament in consultation with our stakeholders and staff. We also recognise there are varied perspectives and respect every individual’s opinion, concern, and decision on this matter.
We encourage everyone to inform themselves, listen with open minds and hearts and to walk together in the spirit of reconciliation.
