New Zealand indie pop royalty Jonathan Bree (The Brunettes) brings to Sydney his third solo album, the sultry and self-effacing tribute to failed romance Sleepwalking.
After a 13-year career as one half of storied NZ indie-pop duo The Brunettes, Bree has since dedicated himself to his solo career, running Lil’ Chief Records and directing acclaimed music videos, including the clip for top Sleepwalking cut You’re So Cool, which Time Out New York declared the Best Music Video of the Year.
With wit-laden lyricism that nods to Jarvis Cocker, baroque “bendy string” instrumentation, Gainsbourg-inspired production and the 60s aesthetic and warm baritone of Scott Walker, Bree and band deliver a masterclass in simple, spacious and clever pop songwriting.
