This quadruple Tony Award-winning work is a modern musical infused with salsa rhythms by a 10-piece Latino band.
Written by Hamilton creator and Moana composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, In The Heights is set in summertime Manhattan’s vibrant, close-knit Hispanic-American neighbourhood Washington Heights, where community comes first.
Despite their close bonds, the hard-working residents grapple with serious challenges: Usnavi is stuck running a debt-ridden corner bodega and dreaming of a simpler life with his family in the Dominican Republic. Nina’s family is trying to scrape together the funds to send her to Stanford, as Vanessa struggles to put a down payment on an apartment. All the while, rumours circulate that someone’s bought a winning lottery ticket and is about to finally get rich.
This joyous summer tale is about family, community and chasing your dreams while staying true to your roots.
